Clear The Donation TTI Panel (Release Gate)

This is the safety gate at the heart of the blood bank. Every donation must pass an infection-screening panel before a single unit from it can ever be used — and the way Veona enforces that is simple and absolute: the laboratory signs the panel out, and that signature is the gate. All markers clear, the units are released; any one marker reacts, every unit from that donation is discarded and can never be issued.

The terms here matter. TTI stands for transfusion-transmissible infection — a disease that could pass from donor to recipient through blood. The panel screens the standard markers: HIV, HBsAg (the hepatitis B surface antigen), HCV (hepatitis C), Syphilis, Malaria and HTLV (human T-lymphotropic virus). Each marker reads Non-Reactive (clear), Reactive (a positive signal), or Pending (not yet resolved). And sign-out means putting your eSign PIN — your personal six-digit signing code — to the result, which makes it the authoritative, published verdict.

Who / when: the Lab Scientist or Blood Bank Officer on the immunohaematology bench, once a donation has been collected and its samples tested. This is a fulfilling-bench job, gated to the people who perform and sign immuno verdicts.

We follow Amaka, a lab scientist clearing the panel for Tunde’s O− donation.

Record the panel and sign it out

1. Lab Scientist — open Blood Bank → Immunohaematology and select the “TTI Clearance” tab. The figures at the top include “Pending TTI” — donations still awaiting clearance — and “Unsigned Verdicts”.
2. Lab Scientist — press “Record TTI Panel”. In the dialog, choose the “Donation” being screened, set an optional “Method” (for example ELISA, rapid or NAT), and set each of the six markers — HIV, HBsAg, HCV, Syphilis, Malaria, HTLV — to “Non-Reactive” or “Reactive”.
3. Lab Scientist — press “Record”. The panel is saved but not yet applied — its markers stay editable. Veona confirms “TTI panel … recorded. Sign it out to apply the gate.” and shows it in the “TTI Clearance” table with a “Sign Out” button.
4. Lab Scientist — when you are satisfied with the result, press “Sign Out” on the panel’s row. Enter your 6-digit eSign PIN to publish it.
5. Lab Scientist — with all six markers Non-Reactive, sign-out sets the outcome to “Cleared” and releases the donation’s units: every one of them moves from “Quarantine” to “Available” and is marked TTI-cleared. They are now genuinely issuable.

Caution

The markers are editable right up until you sign out — and only until then. Sign-out is the gate. Before it, nothing has happened to the units; after it, the verdict is published, the units have moved, and the panel can no longer be edited. Check the result before you put your PIN to it.

Note

A panel with any marker still on “Pending” cannot be signed — Veona refuses with “Every TTI marker must be resolved (non-reactive or reactive) before sign-out.” Resolve every marker first, then sign.

Other ways this goes

All markers non-reactive — the units are released

1. Lab Scientist — every marker reads “Non-Reactive”. On “Sign Out” with your PIN, the panel’s outcome becomes “Cleared”.
2. Lab Scientist — Veona releases the whole donation: its units flip Quarantine → Available and are flagged TTI-cleared. They can now be moved, crossmatched, reserved and issued like any stock.

Any marker reactive — every unit is quarantine-discarded

1. Lab Scientist — if even one marker reads “Reactive”, set it so and “Sign Out” with your PIN. The outcome becomes “Reactive”.
2. Lab Scientist — Veona discards every unit from that donation as TTI-reactive. They are never issuable, and the discard stands as the input to any lookback.
3. Lab Scientist — the donor is permanently deferred automatically — you do not have to do it by hand. The bank will not collect from this person again.

Markers stay editable until sign-out

1. Lab Scientist — between “Record” and “Sign Out” you can re-open and re-record the panel to correct a marker — repeat-testing a borderline result, say. Nothing about the units changes during this window; only the signature applies the gate.

An unsigned panel keeps the units in Quarantine

1. Lab Scientist — recording a panel is not the same as clearing the donation. Until you sign out, the units stay in “Quarantine” — in inventory they show “Awaiting TTI” with no “Release” action available.
2. Lab Scientist — the donation also keeps counting toward the “Pending TTI” figure on the worklist until its panel is signed. Sign it out to clear it from the queue.

The TTI charge on the tariff

1. Blood Bank Officer — a TTI panel is a blood-bank service your tenant can price: the service code bb.tti.screen (display name TTI Screening Panel) is tariffed like any other.
2. Blood Bank Officer — note that this is a donation-side cost, not a patient charge. A donor’s screen has no recipient at the time it is run, so the panel sign-out does not raise a charge on any patient’s bill — TTI screening is a bank operating cost. The recipient-side charges in this module are the crossmatch and the issued unit, which you will meet later in the journey.

What happens next

Once a donation is cleared, its units are Available and join the live inventory, ready to be matched to a patient. From here the journey forks: the laboratory manages those units — storage, FEFO, near-expiry, discard — and, when a clinician requests blood, types and antibody-screens the recipient and crossmatches a unit against them. The cleared, available unit is the raw material for everything downstream.
