Send a Result Back to the Ordering Clinician

Who / when: the Lab Scientist triggers it by signing out a result, and the Physician who ordered the test receives it — automatically, the instant the result is released. Nobody has to remember to “tell the doctor”; releasing a result is telling the doctor.

When a lab scientist verifies and signs out a result, Veona looks up the clinician who ordered it and sends them a notice that says, in effect, “a result has been verified — open the chart to read it.” The notice deliberately carries no clinical content: no test name, no analyte, no value, no normal-or-abnormal hint. It is a nudge to go and look, not the result itself. This protects PHI (Protected Health Information, any clinical detail about the patient), because the notice may travel by email or another outside channel, while the values stay safely inside the chart behind a login.

  1. Lab Scientist — finish and release the result as usual: in Labs → Results & Worklist, press “Verify & Sign Out” and confirm with your 6-digit eSign PIN (your electronic signature, separate from your password).   2. Physician — receive the content-free notice titled “A result has been verified”. It tells you a result is ready and links you to the patient’s chart; it does not name the test or show any value.
  3. Physician — open the chart from the notice (or from your worklist) and read the released result there, in full, behind your login. The same result also lands on the unified view if it was part of a mixed requisition — see See Every Order Converge on One Physician View.

What happens next: the ordering clinician reviews the result in the chart and decides what to do — act on it, order a follow-up, or release it to the patient’s portal. The whole loop, from sign-out to the clinician’s notice, is recorded in the audit trail, so it is always provable that the orderer was informed the moment the result was ready.
