Run a Resuscitation

Resus (resuscitation) is the part of the ED that runs the sickest patients — the ESI 1 cases where every minute and every action counts. When the resus team is activated, Veona opens a resus case for the patient, pages the on-call roster so the right people come, and gives you a clean timeline to log each thing the team does as it happens, with a timestamp on every entry.

Who / when: the ED physician activates resus from the board for a critical patient and leads the case; the ED nurse scribes the timeline. We follow Dr Tunde Adeyemi working an ESI 1 cardiac-arrest patient that Grace has just triaged.

  1. ED physician — activate the resus team from the ED Board for the critical patient. Veona opens the resus case in a bay and pages the on-call resus roster (configured in ED Settings).
  2. ED physician / nurse — open Emergency → Resus. The active case shows the bay, patient, presentation, team and the time it started.
  3. ED nurse — press “Log Event”, type what just happened (for example “Shock delivered 200J” or “Adrenaline 1mg IV”), and add it. Each entry lands on the Timeline with its own timestamp, building a minute-by-minute record of the case.

What happens next

Activating resus captures the resuscitation fee automatically, and the timeline becomes part of the visit’s clinical record. When the patient is stabilised, the team gives them a zone and bay on the Bed and Zone Board and works toward a disposition — most often an admission to a critical-care ward.
