Build a Clinical Procedure Template With Consumables

Who / when: an administrator builds a procedure template once; clinicians and nurses then perform it on patients. A clinical procedure is any hands-on piece of care that uses supplies and may carry a charge — a wound dressing, a plaster cast, an IM injection, a catheterization. A template captures, once, what the procedure consumes and what it costs, so that every time it is performed the stockroom and the bill both update themselves — no one re-keys the dressing pack or remembers to add the charge.

Key terms: the consumables list is the supplies a procedure uses, each with a quantity. The service/price code is the tariff code Veona uses to price the procedure when it is billed.

Create the template

  1. Administrator — open Procedures → Procedure Catalogue. This is where reusable procedure templates are authored, with their fees and consumables.
  2. Press the New Procedure button and fill the header:
    • Code — a short, stable handle in capitals (for example WOUND-DRESS). It cannot be changed later.
    • Name — the procedure’s name (for example Wound Dressing).
    • Department — optional; the owning department, which is the cost-centre the costs and revenue settle to (search to pick).
    • Billable — leave on if the procedure carries a charge. When it is on, add the Service/Price Code that prices it and the billable line name shown on the patient’s bill. Leave Billable off for procedures you never charge for.

Add the consumables

In the consumables list, list the supplies the procedure normally uses:

  1. Press Add Consumable to add a line.
  2. Choose the Stock Item (search your inventory) and set the Qty normally used per procedure.
  3. Repeat for each supply. Use Remove to drop a line.

The list may be empty — some procedures consume nothing. Whatever you list here is pre-filled when the procedure is scheduled, and is what gets drawn from stock when it is completed.

Press Save Procedure. Veona confirms the template is saved.

What happens next

The template is live in the catalogue. A clinician or nurse can now schedule it against a patient on Procedures → Procedure Worklist; completing it will draw the consumables you listed and raise the fee you set.
