Activate Resus With One Tap

Who / when: the ED Team — the nurse or physician at the board the instant a patient is crashing and needs resuscitation right now. ED means Emergency Department; “resus” is short for resuscitation, the immediate, all-hands response to a life-threatening emergency. Speed is everything here, so the whole activation is a single tap.

  1. ED Team — the patient must already be on the board. If they have just arrived, triage them first (a fast complaint + vitals + acuity entry — see Triage an Emergency Patient to the Board); acuity 1 surfaces a resuscitation prompt automatically.
  2. ED Team — open ED → ED Board (“Emergency board”). Find the patient who needs resuscitation.
  3. ED Team — press “Activate resus”. A short confirmation appears so a mis-tap cannot fire it.
  4. ED Team — confirm. In one action Veona opens a real resus encounter on the shared clinical spine, opens a resus bay for the patient, and pages the on-call roster so the team converges on the bay.
  5. ED Team — the board flips to show “Resus active” for that patient. Begin resuscitation; charting, ordering and the running record all hang off the encounter that was just opened.

What happens next

The team works the resus in the bay with the encounter already open and the record live. When the patient is stabilised, the ED physician records the outcome as a disposition from ED → Disposition — most often admitting them to a ward (see Admit an Emergency Patient to a Ward), or transferring or referring on as the situation demands.
