Dialysis Nurse & Nephrologist
You run the dialysis unit. The order-versus-fulfil rule applies here as it does across Veona: the nephrologist enrols the patient and writes the dialysis prescription; the dialysis nurse fulfils it — registers the vascular access, schedules the chair and machine, and runs and signs each session.
A dialysis prescription is the doctor’s order for a session — dialyser, target fluid removal, dialysate and flows. Vascular access is the route used for dialysis (a fistula, graft or catheter). eSign PIN is your 6-digit signing PIN, required to sign a session.
Nephrologist — what you can do
Section titled “Nephrologist — what you can do”As a nephrologist, you can:
- Enrol a dialysis patient — record the modality (chronic or acute) and bring them onto the unit.
- Write and revise the prescription — the dialyser, target fluid removal, dialysate, flows and anticoagulation.
- Oversee access and scheduling — review the vascular-access register and the chair/machine schedule.
- Record and eSign a session when you run one yourself.
Dialysis Nurse — what you can do
Section titled “Dialysis Nurse — what you can do”As a dialysis nurse, you can:
- Maintain the vascular-access register — record the access type and any complications.
- Manage chair and machine scheduling — the slots per shift, including recurring sessions.
- Run and eSign a session — record the pre-, intra- and post-session observations, the fluid actually removed, and any events, then sign with your eSign PIN.
What you cannot do
Section titled “What you cannot do”A dialysis nurse cannot write the prescription or enrol a patient — that is the nephrologist’s order, by design. The nurse runs the session exactly to the prescription the doctor wrote. A referring clinician can read the renal record for a patient they referred, but does not run the dialysis episode.

A typical day
Section titled “A typical day”- The nephrologist opens Patients (Dialysis), enrols a new patient and writes the prescription.
- The dialysis nurse registers the vascular access and books the patient into the schedule, setting up the recurring slots.
- At chair-side, the nurse runs the session to the prescription — recording pre-, intra- and post-session observations and the fluid removed.
- The nurse eSigns the completed session with their eSign PIN.
- The nephrologist reviews progress and revises the prescription as the patient’s needs change.
