Run Imaging Modalities Through the Connect Hub

Who / when: the Biomed engineer who registers and maintains imaging equipment, and the Radiographer who works the modality. A “modality” is an imaging machine — a CT scanner, an X-ray unit, an ultrasound. The point of this page is that those machines are not a separate world from the lab analyzers: they live in the same device hub and receive their work the same way.

A modality is registered as a Connect device, just like an analyzer. When a clinician orders imaging, Veona routes that order line down to the mapped modality through MWL — the DICOM Modality Worklist, the standard channel that pushes imaging orders onto the machine’s worklist (DICOM is the medical-imaging standard). One hub, one queue, two kinds of equipment.

  1. Biomed — open Connect → Devices and register the modality as a connected device: its vendor, model, the DICOM protocol, and its address. It now appears in the same registry as your analyzers, with the same live state and counters.

  2. Biomed — press “Test Connection” on the modality. In live mode the on-site appliance reaches the real machine at its configured address and records the result, confirming the link before any orders are sent.

  3. Physician — order the imaging study as normal from the chart or the Diagnostics Suite. (You do not touch Connect to order; you just request the study.)

  4. (Automatic) — on signing, Veona routes the imaging line down through Connect’s MWL channel to the mapped modality. The on-screen order receipt resolves to a named target modality (for example a registered GE Discovery NM device) with its accession — the order is queued to the machine’s worklist, not handed over on paper.

  5. Radiographer — at the machine, the ordered study is waiting on the modality’s own worklist, pulled in over MWL. Select the patient, acquire the images, and the study pushes back to Veona for reporting.

What happens next: the radiographer acquires the study and a radiologist reads, reports, and signs it. Because the modality was driven through Connect, its connection state and message flow are visible alongside the analyzers in the one registry and queue, so a biomed engineer manages the whole fleet from a single place. Sending an imaging order to the modality worklist is the ordering side of this same MWL route.
