eSign a Referral With Your PIN
Who / when: the Referring Provider — the clinician sending a patient on to another clinician or facility. This happens when you decide, usually during or after a consultation, that the patient needs care you are not providing yourself. A referral in Veona is a clinical document, and your eSign PIN — a 6-digit signing code each clinical staff member holds, separate from your login password — is what turns the draft into a sent, legally-attributed referral. No PIN, no referral.
This page zooms in on the signature step. You reach it from the same type-aware booking form covered in Book Appointment, Telehealth or Referral — here we follow Dr. Okafor, who is referring a patient to a cardiology clinic.
- Referring Provider — open Appointments → Booking and on step “1 · Booking type” choose “Referral”. The form rebuilds itself with the referral field set.
- Referring Provider — fill in the referral detail: the patient, the urgency (Routine, Urgent, or Emergency), the direction (Outgoing — you are sending the patient out — or Incoming), and the reason / clinical detail that tells the receiving clinician why you are referring and what you have found.
- Referring Provider — move to step “4 · Sign & send”. This step is the whole point: it is where your signature is captured. Enter your 6-digit eSign PIN in the field provided.
- Referring Provider — press “Sign & send referral”. Veona re-checks your PIN against your own record (a fresh re-authentication, not your login session), binds your identity to the document, and only then creates and sends the referral.
What happens next: the moment you sign, the referral is recorded and sent — it appears on Appointments → Referrals, the receiving provider is notified, and the patient receives a content-free “referral received” notice on their chosen channel (no clinical detail travels in the message). The full create-and-notify picture is in Create and Notify a Referral. When the receiving provider accepts it, the referral seals into a real follow-up appointment: Accept a Referral Into an Appointment.
