Toggle Equipment Between Inventory and Connect

Who / when: the biomed engineer owns the bridge between an instrument as an asset and the same instrument as a connected device. An analyzer or modality lives in two places — in Stock as an inventory item you received, count, and maintain, and in Connect as a registered device that sends orders down and reports results back. This flow links the two with a toggle, so a single physical instrument is one coherent record: turn the link on, and the equipment item reflects its live Connect device; turn it off, and it goes back to being a plain inventory asset.

1. Biomed — open Stock → Item Catalog and find the equipment item (the analyzer or modality as you received it into inventory). This is the asset side: its serial, its location, its maintenance and valuation.

2. Biomed — open Connect → Devices in a second view. This is the device registry — every analyzer and imaging modality registered as a connected device, each with its vendor, model, protocol (ASTM / LIS2-A / HL7 v2 / DICOM with MWL), transport, and live state. The instrument you want to link should already exist here as a device, or you can add it with “Add Device”.

   Note

   Connect is the integration hub. A device here is what actually exchanges messages — orders go down to it (imaging modalities via MWL, the DICOM Modality Worklist; analyzers over their ASTM/LIS2-A/HL7 link) and results come up from it, matched back to the right requisition by barcode. Linking the Stock item to this entry is what makes the inventory asset and the live integration the same instrument.

3. Biomed — on the equipment item, switch the Connect link toggle on and pick the matching device from the registry. The two records are now joined by a typed link, not a loose name match — the asset you maintain and the device that talks to Veona point at each other.

4. Biomed — with the link on, the equipment item reflects its Connect device’s live state. Connection and operational status are read straight from the device registry, so what you see against the asset is the genuine live state of the instrument, never a frozen or seeded value.

   Tip

   Each device’s detail shows its directionality: a bidirectional instrument supports results-up, orders-down, and host-query; a unidirectional instrument reports results-up only. Check this when you link, so you know what the asset is actually capable of on the wire.

5. Biomed — confirm the bridge by running “Test Connection” on the device in Connect → Devices. In live mode the appliance reaches the real instrument at its configured address; a successful test confirms the link before anyone relies on it. The result is recorded as a note on the device.

6. Biomed — to unlink, switch the toggle off. The equipment returns to being a plain inventory asset — it stays in Stock → Item Catalog for counting and maintenance, but it no longer mirrors a Connect device. The device entry itself is untouched in the registry.

What happens next: once linked, the instrument behaves as a live device everywhere it matters — orders route to it and its results land back automatically, and its health shows on the fleet and Connect screens as a true reading.
