Imaging Critical Read-Back

import { Steps } from ‘@astrojs/starlight/components’;

Who / when: a Radiologist reading a study who finds a result that must be communicated urgently to the ordering provider — the closed-loop “critical read-back”.

eSign PIN = the 6-digit code you re-enter to sign a record. A critical finding is a result whose urgency requires direct, audited communication back to the ordering clinician.

  1. Clinician — orders the imaging study (see Unified Diagnostics Requisition, step 3).
  2. Radiographer — acquires the study; the imaging order moves to Acquired.
  3. Radiologist — open ImagingReport Authoring (/imaging/report). Draft the structured report (findings, impression and an assessment category).
  4. Radiologist — set Assessment = Critical. A warning appears noting the ordering provider will be notified.
  5. Radiologist — choose Sign & Lock and enter your eSign PIN. The report is locked, signed and dated; its PDF is generated and a Critical Finding record is auto-created in the Pending state.
  6. Radiologist (or a colleague holding the critical-findings permission) — open ImagingImaging Critical Results (/imaging/critical). The Pending finding is listed.
  7. Record the read-back to the ordering clinician (channel and recipient are audited; the message itself is content-free). The row moves to Notified — a closed-loop audit trail.

What happens next: the ordering clinician sees the released, signed report alongside the rest of the patient’s diagnostics on the Suite Worklist, and the critical communication is permanently auditable.
