Read the Trial Balance
The Trial Balance lists every account’s net balance, one side each, and proves that across the whole ledger total debits equal total credits. It is the books’ internal consistency check: if it balances, your double-entry is sound. Veona computes it live from the General Ledger every time you open it.
Who / when: the Accountant, Finance Manager and read-only Auditor all read the Trial Balance — typically at period-end, before closing, and any time you want to confirm the ledger is healthy.
We will follow Tunde the finance officer, checking the books balance before he closes the month.
A few terms first
Section titled “A few terms first”- Net balance — for each leaf account, all its debits and credits summed to a single figure, shown in whichever column (debit or credit) it lands on.
- Balanced — the headline result: the grand total of debit balances equals the grand total of credit balances.
- Base currency — every figure is in your facility’s base currency.
Read it
Section titled “Read it”-
Accountant — open Finance & Ledger → Trial Balance. Veona lists every leaf account with its code, name, root type, and its net debit or credit balance. The footer totals both columns.
-
Accountant — read the Balanced / Out Of Balance tag at the top. Balanced means total debits equal total credits — the books are internally consistent. (Because Veona refuses to post an unbalanced voucher in the first place, this should always read Balanced; an out-of-balance result points to a data issue worth investigating.)
-
Accountant — use the report filters to bound the result to a date window, or to slice it by a cost center or project dimension, then press Apply. Leave them empty for the whole ledger to date.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”With the books proven in balance, read the Income Statement to see the period’s profit, then the Balance Sheet for the position. When you are satisfied, close the period in Fiscal Years and Periods.
