Finance Manager & Accountant

You keep the books. Veona posts every revenue and cost event — a released lab result, a dispensed drug, a ward bed-day, a supplier invoice, a pay run — into one set of books: a single double-entry general ledger. The finance roles maintain that ledger, produce the financial statements, and run the period close.

Two roles share this area, split by a clear separation of duties. An accountant works the posting bench. A finance manager is the controller who approves and closes. An auditor can read everything and change nothing.

The chart of accounts is the list of accounts the ledger posts to. The general ledger is the complete record of every posting. A journal is a balanced entry into the ledger. FX is foreign exchange.

As an accountant, you can:

  • Maintain the chart of accounts — add, edit and disable accounts.
  • Post journals — create a manual journal and post it to the general ledger.
  • Cancel a journal — which reverses it with an automatic reversing entry, never an in-place edit.
  • Manage cost centres and projects — the dimensions a posting is tagged to.
  • Maintain exchange rates and run a period-end FX revaluation to restate open foreign balances.
  • Read every report — the trial balance, income statement, balance sheet and cash flow.

A finance manager is the controller. They hold everything the accountant can do plus:

  • Manage fiscal years and accounting periods — open, close and lock them so a closed period can no longer be posted into.
  • Own the finance configuration — the default account mappings and the accounting basis the whole facility posts against.

The auditor role is read-only by design — it can see the entire ledger and every report but cannot post, cancel or close anything. An accountant cannot close a period or change the finance configuration; that is a controllership decision reserved for the finance manager. And because charges flow in automatically from clinical and operational events, your job is to review, reconcile and close — not to invent revenue by hand.

  1. Open the General Ledger (Finance) and review the postings that flowed in automatically overnight.
  2. As an accountant, post any manual journals — accruals, corrections, allocations — and tag them to the right cost centre or project.
  3. Update exchange rates and run an FX revaluation to restate open foreign balances at month-end.
  4. Reconcile, then check the trial balance, income statement and balance sheet.
  5. As the finance manager, when the month is done, close and lock the period so no further postings can land in it.
