Match, Verify and Release an Analyzer Result

Who / when: the lab scientist at the bench, when an analyzer has finished a run and sent its values up; and the physician, who is notified the moment the result is released. When an analyzer is connected through Veona Connect, it returns the result itself — the scientist doesn’t type machine values by hand. Veona matches the result to the right sample by barcode and fills the result grid in automatically. The scientist’s job is to review those values and put their signature on them, because a released result is a clinical document and someone must own it.

We’ll follow Chika, a lab scientist working the chemistry bench.

1. Lab Scientist — open Labs → Results & Worklist. The worklist is a left-to-right pipeline — ordered, in progress, awaiting review, released. The result the analyzer just sent up is waiting in the awaiting-review stage. Click the sample to open its analytes.
2. Lab Scientist — read the grid. Veona has filled in each analyte value from the machine and named the source analyzer against the result, so you can see exactly where it came from. Any value outside its reference range is flagged automatically — Low, High, Critical Low or Critical High — with the reference range shown beside it.
3. Lab Scientist — if a result arrived that Veona could not match to a known sample, it lands in the “Unmatched Results” panel on the same screen instead of a patient’s grid. Press “Reconcile” on it and pick the correct sample to link it. (This is rare — it happens when a barcode is unreadable or a tube was run without being accessioned first.)
4. Lab Scientist — when the values are right, press “Verify & Sign Out”. The confirm dialog “Verify & Release Results” appears. Enter your 6-digit eSign PIN (your electronic signature, separate from your password) and press “Confirm Release”. The result moves to Released.

Note

If your facility uses two-stage verification, signing out instead submits the result for senior review — the button reads “Release (Verify)” and the dialog reads “Submit for Senior Review”. A second, different scientist must then approve it; Veona will not let the same person enter and release the same result (segregation of duties). Caution

A critical value (life-threatening) is more than a flag — it triggers a closed-loop read-back. As soon as you release a result carrying a critical value, Veona auto-creates a pending critical finding that must be telephoned to the ordering team and read back. Don’t treat a critical result as finished at release; carry it through Close the Loop on a Critical Lab Value.

What happens next

The moment the result is released, two things happen on their own: the ordering physician is notified and the result appears in their results inbox and on the patient’s chart, and a branded result PDF is generated. A released result can no longer be edited — to correct one, use “Amend (Re-Sign)” and re-sign with your eSign PIN, which keeps the original on the record.
