Order a Mixed Batch of Labs and Imaging at Once

Who / when: the physician (or any ordering clinician), during or at the end of a consultation, when a patient needs both blood work and a scan and you would rather not hop between two ordering screens. The Diagnostics Suite is the one place you order labs and imaging together. You build a single requisition, sign it once with your eSign PIN (your 6-digit electronic signature, separate from your password — typing it is a legal signature that confirms you authorised the order), and send it. Veona then quietly splits that one requisition into a lab order and an imaging order under one parent record, so each professional sees their part and you still track the whole job from one list.

We’ll follow Dr. Okafor, who is seeing a patient with abdominal pain and wants a full blood count, a urea and electrolytes panel, and an abdominal ultrasound — all on one order.

  1. Physician — open Diagnostics → New Requisition. The page is titled Unified Requisition: “Order labs and imaging together — one searchable catalogue, one signature.”
  2. Physician — under “Patient & Order”, search for the patient by name or UHID (Unique Health ID — the patient’s permanent hospital number, looks like VNA-12345). Then pick the “Ordering Clinician” (yourself) and a “Priority” (for example Routine or Stat).
  3. Physician — under “Catalogue (Labs + Imaging)”, type into the search box. One box searches both families at once from your facility’s enabled catalogue — type FBC and add the full blood count, type U&E for the electrolytes panel, then type abdomen ultrasound and add the scan. Each item you add shows its “Family” tag (lab or imaging) so you can see the mix at a glance. For an imaging item you can also set the laterality (Left, Right or Bilateral) where it applies.
  4. Physician — under “Clinical Indication”, type the reason for the request (for example “Abdominal pain, query gallstones”). This indication carries through to the imaging study so the radiologist reads with the clinical question in front of them.
  5. Physician — press “Sign & Send Requisition” and enter your 6-digit eSign PIN in the confirm dialog.

The instant you sign, Veona splits your one requisition into two child orders under a single parent record: a lab order (routed down to its analyzer through Veona Connect where a device is mapped — see Send a Lab Order Down to the Analyzer) and an imaging order (placed on the scanner’s worklist — see Send an Imaging Order to the Modality Worklist). The on-screen receipt lists every item with its accession number, the device or modality it routed to, and its current state. You don’t have to do anything else — the lab and the imaging suite are both already working. As results come back, they converge onto the Suite Worklist and your chart, so you read the whole picture in one place; see See Every Order Converge on One Physician View.
