Schedule Newborn Immunisations and Reminders

Every newborn needs a course of childhood vaccines, starting with doses given at birth. Rather than make anyone build the schedule by hand, Veona seeds it automatically the instant the baby is registered — so the at-birth vaccines, and the ones due later, are already laid out and waiting. The midwife records each dose as it is given, and the system sends the parent a reminder when the next one falls due, so babies don’t fall through the cracks.

Who / when: the midwife (role midwife) records each dose; the parent receives the due reminders. The schedule itself appears automatically when the newborn is registered. We’ll follow Midwife Funke giving the at-birth dose to Mrs. Adeyemi’s baby.

1. Midwife — register the baby first. As covered in Register a Newborn as a New Patient, pressing “Register” on Maternity → Newborn seeds the newborn’s immunisation schedule for you. You do not build the schedule by hand.
2. Midwife — open Maternity → Immunisation. The screen is titled “Newborn immunisation” and shows the baby’s scheduled vaccines, with the at-birth doses due now.
3. Midwife — on the at-birth vaccine, select the “Give” action. A short form opens.
4. Midwife — enter the vaccine batch (the lot number from the vial, so the dose is traceable) and who administered it, then record the dose.
5. Midwife — the vaccine’s row flips to Given and persists; reopen the screen later and it is still recorded against the baby.

Note

The schedule is seeded once, automatically, at registration — there is no separate “create schedule” step. Recording the batch number on each dose means every vaccine the baby receives is traceable back to the exact vial it came from, which matters for safety recalls.

Tip

For the doses that fall due later, the parent is sent a reminder when each one approaches, so they know to bring the baby back. Like every Veona notification, the reminder is content-free — it nudges the parent to check in, without putting clinical detail into an email or text. The parent can see the full schedule in their portal reminders feed.

What happens next

The baby now has a living immunisation record: doses already given are stamped Given, and upcoming ones sit on the schedule with reminders attached. As each later vaccine falls due, the parent is nudged, brings the baby in, and the midwife records it the same way — “Give”, batch, administered-by. Over the first months of life this builds the child’s complete, traceable immunisation history.
