Lab Scientist
You run the bench. Clinicians and nurses order tests; you fulfil them — accession the specimen, enter the values, verify and release the result. You do not place orders yourself.
What you can do
Section titled “What you can do”Your role (lab_scientist) holds these capabilities:
- Enter results — record analyte values, reconcile incoming analyzer results, log cultures and QC. (
lab.result.enter) - Verify and release — perform the second-person review, sign out and release the result (eSign PIN). (
lab.result.verify) - Print specimen labels at accessioning and the bench. (
lab.label.print) - Read the labs surface — worklists, the catalogue, results queues. (
lab.read)
QC is Quality Control. eSign PIN is your 6-digit signing PIN, required to sign out a result.
What you cannot do
Section titled “What you cannot do”You cannot order tests — ordering is a prescriber capability (clinician/nurse). You also do not manage the test catalogue, reference ranges or critical-value config; those belong to the lab admin role.
Where you work
Section titled “Where you work”| Screen | Module | What you do there |
|---|---|---|
| Accession, Labels | Labs | Receive and label specimens |
| Results & Worklist | Labs | Enter analyte values |
| Dispatch | Labs | Release the signed result |
| Microbiology, Histopathology | Labs | Sign out micro/histo results |
A typical day
Section titled “A typical day”- Specimens arrive — accession them and print labels.
- Open Results & Worklist (Labs). Analyzer-delivered values may already be matched by barcode; otherwise enter them manually.
- Review each result, then Verify & sign out with your eSign PIN. The result moves to Released and a branded PDF is generated.
- For a critical value, follow the closed-loop read-back process so the ordering clinician is notified and the read-back is recorded.
