Manage Connected Devices and Retry the Queue

Who / when: the Biomed engineer (a biomedical or integration engineer) who keeps the instruments talking to Veona, with the Lab Scientist who notices when results stop arriving. Veona Connect is the hub that links your analyzers and imaging modalities to the system and carries orders down and results back. When something on that link wobbles, this is where you look.

Two jobs live here: confirming a device is reachable, and clearing the message queue when traffic backs up. The queue is durable — nothing is lost when a device is briefly offline; messages wait and can be replayed safely.

  1. Biomed — open Connect → Devices, the instrument-interfacing registry. It lists every connected device for your facility — analyzers and imaging modalities alike — each with its vendor, model, protocol (such as ASTM or LIS2-A for analyzers, or DICOM for modalities), transport, state, and live counters.

  2. Biomed — open a device and press “Test Connection”. In live mode the on-site appliance attempts the real instrument at its configured address; the result is recorded as a Note and tells you whether the link is healthy before anyone relies on it. A device’s detail also shows its directionality — bidirectional instruments take orders down, send results up, and answer host queries; unidirectional ones only report results up.

  3. Lab Scientist — if results from a bench stop appearing, tell the Biomed engineer. A backed-up queue or a failed connection test usually explains it, and both are visible here.

  4. Biomed — open Connect → Message Queue, the durable retry queue. Messages are listed by state — Queued, Retrying, Failed, Sent, Acknowledged — and you can see the pending depth (the count of orders-down and results-up messages waiting to deliver).

  5. Biomed — on a stuck or failed message, press “Retry” to re-queue it for delivery, or “Dead-Letter” to set it aside for manual review.

  6. Biomed — to see the wider picture, open Connect → Health for live device and interface health, where the operational sweep reports any incidents across the hub.

What happens next: with the connection confirmed and the queue drained, orders flow down to the instruments and results flow back up and match to the right requisition by barcode — so the lab scientist’s worklist fills again on its own. Imaging modalities sit in this same registry and ride the same queue, so the steps above apply to them too. To bring a new analyzer or modality onto the hub, register it on Connect → Devices and run the connection test before relying on it.
