Take a Payment From Abroad With a Diaspora Link
A diaspora top-up link is a single shareable web link — no login, no app — that a relative abroad opens to add money to a patient’s wallet. It is tokenised (a long random web address) and carries no patient details beyond a label you choose, so it is safe to send over WhatsApp or email. This guide creates one, shares it, and revokes it.
Who / when: the Billing Clerk (or Billing Manager) creates the link when a patient’s family overseas wants to fund the patient’s care. It is a billing capability held by those roles.
We will follow Amina Bello, whose daughter abroad wants to fund her treatment.
- Billing Clerk — open Integrations → Wallets & Diaspora and select Amina in the Patient panel.
- Billing Clerk — in the Diaspora Top-Up Links panel, type a label that contains no patient details — for example, “Mum’s care fund”. Choose a provider (Paystack, Flutterwave or mobile money) and press “Create Link”.
- Billing Clerk — the link is shown once. Press “Copy Link” immediately and send it to Amina’s daughter. (If you lose it, create a new one and revoke the old.)
The relative, anywhere in the world:
- Opens the link in any browser. They see only the facility name and the label you chose — no patient identity. They enter an amount and their email (for a receipt), then press “Continue To Payment”.
- They are taken to the provider’s secure hosted checkout to pay. The money lands in Amina’s wallet, ready to spend against her invoices.
To stop a link:
- Billing Clerk — in the Existing Links table, press “Revoke” on the link’s row. A revoked link still opens but shows a Revoked notice and accepts no further top-ups.
What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”Every top-up through the link credits the same patient wallet covered in the previous guide, so the cashier spends it against invoices exactly as before. The link keeps working until you revoke it, which makes it handy for an ongoing course of care funded from abroad.
